Many people are dying or getting seriously injured on New Zealand farms.

Agriculture in New Zealand consistently ranks as the industry with the highest incident rate of work-related injuries.

Due to the nature of farm work individuals employed in Agriculture face a wider range of day-to-day tasks, so in turn are faced with a wider range of risks compared to any other industry.

As the machinery we use daily has evolved, it has become bigger and more powerful, and can now be used for multiple different tasks, the risks of accidents and injuries have increased.

In the period from July 2022 to June 2023 the were 254 serious injuries reported, and 12 work-related fatalities recorded. In the same period there were around 1,850 injuries that resulted in the injured person having more than a week away from work.

We need to look at our health and safety procedures and introduce a continuous focus on on-farm safety practices, especially around the machinery we operate. This would be a crucial step towards reducing the the number of injuries and fatalities on our farms.  At Ag Drive, we want to do something about it. Our goal is to provide agricultural machinery operator training based on the safe operation of each piece of machinery and its correct use.
